SPRAINS | SYMPTOMS, CAUSES, PREVENTION

Sprains are when there has been a tear of stretch in the ligaments (bands of fibrous tissue that connect the bones together in your joints) the most common location for sprains is in the ankle.

Mild sprains can be treated at home which includes rest, ice, compression, and elevation of the area affected. Severe sprains where the ligament has been torn will sometimes require surgery.

Most people confuse a sprain with a strain, the difference is that a sprain affects the ligaments while a strain injures a muscle or the tissue that connects the muscle to the bone.
